1st June - International Children's Day

The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed June 1 to be International Children's Day in 1925. It is usually marked with speeches on children's rights and wellbeing, and other events involving or dedicated to children.

Children's Day is celebrated on various days in many places around the world, in particular to honor children.

In Romania, as in many other countries, Children's Day is celebrated on June 1. It coincides with the beginning of summer and it is usually treated as a holiday although it is not a day off from school or work. Yet most schools organize special activities to celebrate the day. Various events and festivities are also organized in parks and entertainment centers for children. On that day, children have free entrance to some museums, theatres, concerts, zoos etc. Traditionally kids receive very special attention from their family, including Birthday-like presents.
